Vienna Carroll

Playwright, Executive Director
Singer, playwright, actor, herbalist, dandelion wine maker. Ms Carroll moved to Harlem from York, PA (where much of Singin takes place) after receiving her BA in African American Studies/Political Science from Yale University. A regular on NYC's jazz scene, she wrote Singin after she recently discovered York's history as a hotbed of abolitionism and Underground Railroad activity. She has presented Singin for the Goodrich Underground Railroad Museum in York and venues in NYC. Ms. Carroll produced a CD of spirituals, Singin' Wid A Sword In Ma Han' in which she is accompanied by percussionist Newman Taylor Baker. viennacarroll.com

LaVonda Elam

LaVonda Elam

LaVonda Elam makes her second appearance with Singin’ Wid A Sword in my Han’. Other works are:  The Pearle Cleage Covergence with RACCA; Mend by Dominique Morisseau; Dr. May Edward Chinn at NBTF and RACCA; Crowns with Diane McIntyre. She is also a vocalist with Voices in Unity. And an educator for The Continuum Project building Legacy with our youth.

Paula Galloway

Paula Galloway

Paula is very excited to be part of this production of Singin' Wid a Sword in Ma Han'. Ms. Galloway has most recently appeared in Shakespeare on the Sound's As You Like It. And look for her in an upcoming web series on MTVother.com! Past productions: Much Ado About Nothing, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Measure for Measure, Admit Impediments, Guys and Dolls, Ragtime, GREEN!, Steel Magnolias, and Smokey Joe's Café. Glenn Gordon NSangou

Glenn Gordon NSangou

Glenn Gordon NSangou- is an actor originally from Baltimore, MD. Recent credits include Henry V (Classical Theatre of Harlem), Deep Azure (Cong Square Theatre), Revenge of a King (NY Fringe), The Great MacDaddy (777 Theater), and Waiting For Godot (Classical Theatre of Harlem). He also wrote and performed in his first play Re:Definition (LaMama Theater workshop production). NSangou is co-founder of The Continuum Project, Inc. and a member of UNIVERSES theatre company. He received his BFA in acting from Howard University.

Rod Singleton

Rod Singleton (Tad) is excited to be part of this presentation of Singin' Wid A Sword In Ma Han.' He has been blessed to perform a wide variety of characters in both plays and musicals, with favorites including Troy in Fences, Mohammed in The Tale of the Allergist's Wife, Coalhouse in Ragtime, Marty in Dreamgirls, and Rev. Hill in the world premier of Fannie Lou. Rod also appears as Frank in the web series Addicted. He is an alumnus of Morehouse College and has studied with the historic Negro Ensemble Company. Henrique Prince

Henrique "Rique" Prince

Fiddle Violinist
Born in Harlem in New York City, Henrique is a self taught Violinist. He taught himself classical as well as folk styles and later studied with Charles Meacham in Northern California. He has played with such diverse musical groups as the Sun Ra Arkestra, the Saturday Night Live Band, and numerous Charanga bands, Jazz ensembles and Reggae bands. In addition he has toured Europe with the Alternative Country band, the Palace Brothers. Henrique has taught in many public and private schools in NY. Henrique started The Ebony Hillbillies (ebonyhillbillies.com) in order to play old time string band music much like it was in the days when it lived among the people. They have toured and played in many festivals and concert halls nationally and in Canada.

Luwana started singing in her church choir at 8-years-old and knew she was destined for the arts. She joined A.C.T. in 2005 and performed in plays throughout the tri-state area, most notably as Brenda Martin in Lord Hear The Cries of Your Children. Other roles include Deena "The Diva" in A Woman's Worth; Mama Rosie in Black Girl; Gussie Lee/Anna in Coming To The Mercy Seat.

Keldrick Crowder is an AUDELCO AWARD winning actor. Some of his credits include Julius Ceasar in New York's Shakespeare in the Park, Aaron in Titus Andronicus at the American Theater of Actor's, Duke Frederick in the Inwood Shakespeare Festival; The Task and Playing with Heiner Muller at the Castillo Theater, Coat Check Casanova at The Living Theater, Harlem on My Mind at the Metropolitan Playhouse, Bourne to The Ocean at the Manhattan Repertoire Theater, Oedipus Rex at the Saint Mark's Theater.

Kerri Little

Kerri Little is a singer, actress, songwriter and vocal instructor/coach. Kerri also works with youth groups as a choir director, coach, and mentor. Ms. Little presently teaches music (public and private) in Brooklyn, NY and is in the studio completing an upcoming Gospel project.

Linda Murdaugh

Musician and Singer
Linda is an accomplished musician who hails from York, PA. Though classically trained, she has performed with techno, gothic and industrial bands culminating in 2 cds, Water Comes Rushing In, released in Germany, and The Time Is Near. Linda still retains her gospel roots as church choir lead in her hometown church.

Omar Perez

Omar Perez

Actor and Singer
Omar Perez began his professional career with Pregones Theater’s summer stage production of El Apagon. Since then he has continued working with Pregones in The Red Rose (winner of the 2006 HOLA award for Best Musical), The Beep (winner of the 2007 HOLA award for Best Ensemble) and this year’s summer stage Cuento que me Cuentan. Other stage credits include Spinning into Butter, Man of La Mancha, September 12th, and The Unblackening (winner of the Grand Prize at the BP festival).

Pernell Walker hails from the South Bronx. She holds a M.F.A in acting from Actor's Studio Drama School and a B.A in Theater from City College. She has just wrapped production on the award winning film, Pariah, reprising the role of Laura. Some favorite roles are Rashawn Lee in Seed by Radha Blank (2009 Hip Hop Theater Festival),Vanessa in Earl's Post Prison Playdate and Koroma in A Time in South Africa (2009 semi-finalist in Strawberry One Act Play Festival.

Remembering Dawn

Dawn Bennett We are sad to report that Our Shining Light, Dawn Bennett, the excellent actress who portrayed "Mizz Kessie" (mother character) in the Fringe Festival version of Singin' Wid A Sword passed away. Ms. Bennett was a founding member and current Executive Director of The American Theatre of Harlem ATH). Dawn was widely admired and loved and will be greatly missed by a great many people and organizations. Dawn's favorite nonprofits were ATH and You Can Thrive.

Remembering DAVID

David NolanDavid Nolan

Audio Engineer
David Nolan worked as a recording engineer with experience in transferring all types of audio media to digital formats. He oversaw the audio archives of the 92nd Street Y, one of New York City's most noted cultural institutions, and was also a staff engineer for WNYC radio. David died suddenly at only 48 years of age on 2/25/10. We miss you, David, and thank you for your generous heart and kind ways.

Directorial credits include: Children of Dahomey dance troupe, The Colored Museum, Street Car Named Desire, Singin' Wid A Sword In Ma Han' (Audience Favorite Award - Fringe2009), BET 30th anniversary Upfront and RUINED. Designed, directed and implemented TIE (Theater In Education) programs throughout U.S. and abroad. As a musician performed with Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, Brian McKnight, Shirley Murdock, Jon Hendricks, D Train, Toots, Living Colour. "Heal the World with Art."

Jacqui Anscombe hails from Harlem, NYC. Bachelor - Entertainment Technology, New York City College of Technology, June 2013.  Technical Consultant and Promoter for Harlem Theatre Company and Negro Ensemble Company.  Stage Manager credits: ANTONY & CLEOPATRA, Harlem Shakespeare Festival; BLACK WALL STREET; ZORA RETURNS TO HARLEM; POOF by Lynn Nottage with Negro Ensemble Company, Harlem Theatre Arts Festival.  Sound Technician: THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST; DYLAN; various H.A.D.L.E.Y.
